My lawyer told me the backlog is 400K. As an European, I am expecting to wait between 2 to 3 years for my GC. Anything sooner would be a nice surprise!

Some of my friends who used AC21 moved to jobs having salary more than 50% of their current one. All got their GCs approved and didn't have any issues. But from what i read from multiple sites, the salary should never go below the one that's mentioned in LCA.

:( I just got an RFE on my case...I had 2 soft LUD from past 2 days and now the status says "Request for additional evidence sent."

This is talking about I-140 and not I-485.....
My I-140 filed with TSC is still pending since August 2007. I hope I get a decision ( hopefully positive) by Sep 2009!
Could you elaborate why you say this is about I140? I couldn't derive that from the posting. Anyhow this whole this is utter nonsense from the immigration department. I don't think there will be any action, period.
The whole thing is written as if June 2007 happened by mistake, I don't buy that.

Alright.. I had the power (zee.. I am so powerful) to give you some reputation in IV society and I did that because you sound like a very nice person. :D
Now go and do some good work for this society like donating money to IV or doing volunteer work.. something of that nature to build up more reputation. :D
It's good to find humor in difficult times like yesterday and today. I have seen so many funny posts today that I have been laughing my head off despite the uncertainty surrounding VB fiasco.
Man, this is so funny, Somebody give me some good or atleast some bad reputation :D :D :D :D

Principal Consultant / Program Manager (in cos like Wipro, Infy, HP) (12- 18 yrs exp) - 18-28 lakhs
Also note, just because someone has worked in US for a few years does not get any advantage above Project Manager level.
Information based on many well placed contacts at these levels.

I asked IV core on what version of immigration bill they support because I and other people wanted to know since there are so many amendments to the current immigration bill and Now I log in to see , the thread is missing, why, my question was straight forward, again I am asking them on what form of immigration bill they support. I highly doubt In what they are doing looks like they are working for the benefit of them self. Whats new about this news? We have been hearing this since Thursday evening.
I hope it does not - but it may also happen that a solution is not reached and our only option then is a lawsuit. Think of it this way - the longer there is no news the more likelyhood there is a deadlock.

I wonder how it is they justify over 70K visas to EB2ROW, keeping it current all year, when EB2 I was so retrogressed and got only 15K. FIFO my foot. This is the most mismanaged, subjective thing I have ever seen. Translated for us, luck of the draw.

I think you can volunteer while on H4. But, I would not recommend working "off the book" - it is illegal and can screw your GC process big time.
Some charity organization ask for the social security number even for volunteering. But, I am sure there are many who will let you work without it.

My wife has a non-working SSN. Will she need to convert it (or apply for a new SSN) to working SSN once she starts working persuant to EAD?
You do not have to apply for new SSN but do the following taken from SSA website:
If your work eligibility has changed or if have become a U.S. citizen, you must apply for a replacement card. Your replacement card will no longer read “Not Valid for Employment,” but you will retain the same Social Security number.
To get a replacement card:
Complete an Application For A Social Security Card (Form SS-5); and
Show us documents proving your:
Immigration status;
Work eligibility; and
Identity.
Take (or mail) your completed application and documents to your local Social Security office.
All documents must be either originals or copies certified by the issuing agency. We cannot accept photocopies or notarized copies of documents.
We will mail your number and card as soon as we have all of your information and have verified your documents.

Didn't you earn all the dollars in this country? Then where is the pain man? Remember Geeta --- Jo liye Yehin pe liye, Jo diya yahin pe diya (Whatever I got I got here, Whatever I gave, I gave here)....so think that and write checks to Lawyer, Doctor, USCIS. I hope Geeta will reduce your pain.
